CoreSense is the brand name Emerson is now using to market its compressor electronics offering. It is an electronics platform that uses Copeland® compressors as a sensor to monitor, assimilate and interpret system and electrical information within the compressor.

CoreSense Technology delivers more compressor system information and protection so that technicians can identify performance issues quickly and accurately for greater reliability and cost savings, giving them freedom to refocus time and money on other priorities.

The CoreSense brand will be replacing other electronic brands, such as:

  • Copeland PerformanceAlert
  • Comfort Alert
  • Commercial Comfort Alert
  • ISD

There are several variations on the CoreSense brand: CoreSense Protection, CoreSense Communications and CoreSense Diagnostics. The most important or unique benefit the electronics module delivers in a given application is what defines its name. These unique benefits are the tools you can use to help sell a product containing CoreSense Technology.

An electronics module is called "CoreSense Protection" if it:

  • Monitors basic operating conditions within the compressor, such as temperature, oil or pressure
  • Responds with passive or active protection

An electronics module is called "CoreSense Communications" if it:

  • Sends information from the compressor module to another device in a way that is new or unique to the application
  • Provides new, game-changing communicating capabilities

An electronics module is called "CoreSense Diagnostics" if it:

  • Delivers a range of fault codes that can identify the root cause of a problem and protect the compressor from adverse system conditions
  • Contains algorithms that specifically protect the compressor motor and are unique to Emerson

Why is this important to you?

More than 1.3 million compressors each year are being shipped with CoreSense Technology. Beginning in early 2011, all new OEM Discus (2,3,4,6), as well as some larger Scroll (early 2011) and NextGen Ref Summit will begin in mid-2011.

Application

Not all Emerson Climate Technologies electronics are CoreSense Electronics. In order for a product manufactured by Emerson to bear the CoreSense brand, it must meet the following criteria:

  • Use the compressor as a sensor
  • Deliver advanced capabilities and value, such as protection, diagnostics or communications
  • Enhance the performance and/or reliability of the compressor
